Trane/American Standard’s Statement on UV-C Lights
The effectiveness of UV-C ultraviolet light technology, to improve the indoor air quality(IAQ) has been studied by the American Standards or Trane. But have concluded that there aren’t many solutions to cater to all the issues related to IAQ issues.
In the HVAC industry, some manufacturers, dealers, and suppliers have considered the UV-C lights as a solution to microbial growth issues that are seen in buildings. While science stands by the fact that with sufficient time and dose, UV-C light can destroy the microbes, Trane or American Standards had put forward that:
UV-C light has little effect on reducing many airborne microbes in ducted systems, particularly concerning the spore forms of microorganisms;
UV-C light is effective in reducing microbial growth on stationary surfaces given sufficient dose
Corporate Position Statement
The American System does not suggest the use of UV-C lights as a remedy to eliminate the microbial growth in buildings. Also, the high-intensity UV-C light can damage the polymeric materials found in the HVAC air distribution system.
For commercial customers, who even after considering the risks involved in UV-C lights, insist on using UV-C lights, American Standard or Trane will offer UV-C lights as a factory-engineered and installed option in some commercial equipment. Doing this only, Trane or American Standard can ensure that the UV-C lights are properly installed and applied to prevent potential damage. However, Trane doesn’t offer UV-C lights for residential applications currently.

Quick to respond and came out quickly. Once Dave and his team arrived they looked at my boiler, hot water heater, et al, played with a couple wires and levers, and had this diagnosed in a couple of minutes. We had major mechanical problems with our split system last summer - so contracted with Northern Comfort for biannual maintenance now. Thank you Super Dave. Dave and his crew were awesome. I only had forced hot air with an oil fired furnace. And the network of ductwork above it was so complicated and cramped. Other companies said it wouldn’t be possible. Or very very expensive to add a/c. But not Dave. He came in. Took measurements and got back to me in a timely fashion. His estimate came in at a very reasonable amount. Then he came back and knocked it out of the park. I had limited space for height. So clearance was just cutting it close. Dave fabricated most of the ducts on site. And I more than pleased with the work. I even recommended him to a friend over in bethel and now he’s doing a job there. If you need a/c work in the danbury Fairfield area. Do not hesitate to call Dave. I promise you will not be disappointed!
